Take a map drawn in brown ink, split it into regions and hand them out. Muster armies where the border is thinnest, roll the dice against your neighbour and watch the colour spread across the paper. Hold seven regions in ten, or clear the board.

Territory is a turn-based map conquest game drawn as an old parchment atlas. Inked coastlines, hatched mountains, tiny woods and wave marks fill four hand-made maps, and every region is washed in the colour of whoever holds it. Armies stack up as little round counters with a number on the face, and when two of them meet the dice tumble into a wooden tray at the bottom of the page.
A turn runs in three beats. Reinforce gives you one army for every three regions you hold, never fewer than three, plus a bonus for each area you hold end to end — tap your land to set them down and undo if you change your mind. Attack lets you pick one of your regions and a neighbour: you roll up to three dice, the defender up to two, the highest are paired off and the lower of each pair loses an army, with ties going to the defender. Roll on keeps the dice going until one side is spent, and All in sends everything you can spare. Fortify moves armies once between two regions that join up through your own land or a dotted sea route. Take at least one region in a turn and you earn a token; three of them trade in for extra armies at the start of a turn.
The four maps each play differently. The Thousand Leagues is a broad temperate continent with a western archipelago, The Scattered Sea is a chain of islands stitched together by sea lanes, The Realm of Wyrms is a fantasy kingdom with dragons drawn in the margins, and The Frozen North is a winter coast of pack ice and long dark. Play two to four, in any mix of people passing one device and computer players at three strengths: Easy takes its chances, Normal counts armies and holds its areas, and Sharp works out the odds, values the area bonuses and guards the narrow ground. The map pans and zooms under your finger, the keyboard drives everything on a desktop, and your wins are kept in your browser.
Reinforcements come from what you hold: one army for every three regions, never fewer than three, plus a bonus for each area you hold end to end. Completing an area and then guarding its borders is the steadiest way to grow. Place new armies where the border is thinnest or where you plan to attack, and use undo while placing if you change your mind.
When you attack, remember the dice. You roll up to three and the defender up to two, and ties go to the defender, so attacking with a big stack against a small one is far safer than trading armies evenly. Try to take at least one region every turn to collect a token, because three tokens trade in for extra armies. Do not leave your old land empty as you push forward; Fortify lets you move armies once between connected regions to close the gaps. If you are new, start against Easy computer players on The Thousand Leagues before trying the sea routes of The Scattered Sea.
Yes. Territory is free to play in your browser on Kiloo, with nothing to download and no account to create. Your wins are kept in the browser you play in, so you can see them next time.
Yes. On a phone or tablet you tap your land to place armies, drag to pan the map and pinch to zoom. On a computer you click, and the keyboard drives everything: Space or R rolls the dice and Enter ends the phase.
Two to four. You can mix people taking turns on one device with computer players at three strengths: Easy takes its chances, Normal counts armies and holds its areas, and Sharp works out the odds and guards the narrow ground.

Build a port, keep the ships coming

Build an island, season by season

Build a village, raise a castle

Outflank, outthink, take the castle

Buy low, sail far, sell high

Keep the lights on, keep them breathing

Lay the track, run the line

Gather scrap, build bots, take the yard
