Dragon Rider
Ride a dragon, save the kingdom

Two silhouettes face off in front of a painted sunset. Step in, pick a high or a low stance and watch for the tell: block a heartbeat before the blade lands and the attacker staggers wide open for a free hit. Three hits take a round, three rounds take the duel.
Did you like Blade Duel?
Blade Duel is a one-on-one sword fight about timing, drawn as bold black silhouettes in front of painted skies. You step forward and back on a flat stage and hold a high or a low stance. A strike is fast and comes from the stance you are in. A heavy strike is slow, but it breaks a guard held in the other stance. A feint starts a strike and pulls it back to bait the other duelist, and a dash takes you out of reach. Hold block to soak up a hit, or press it within 120 milliseconds of the blade landing to parry: the attacker staggers, everything drops into slow motion for a moment, and you get a free strike. There is no blood anywhere. A hit is a flash of light and a stagger.
The ladder is ten duelists who read like people. Taro the Woodcutter rubs his palms before every heavy swing and stands wide open afterwards. Suzu the Lantern Keeper bites on every feint. Goro the Gatekeeper swings a long blade but is slow to switch stance, and Kaze the Dune Runner dashes away after a block and gets greedy after a parry. They get sharper all the way up to Shiro the Moon Blade, who mixes every tell and habit on the ladder. Each one fights in front of a backdrop of their own, from a bamboo grove and a castle wall to a desert dune, a frozen lake, a volcano rim and a bridge under the moon. Three hits win a round, the best of five rounds wins the duel, and flawless rounds earn up to three stars.
Once you know the ladder, Endless is a gauntlet of random opponents who sharpen as you go. You get five hearts for the whole run and one back for every flawless win, and the score multiplier climbs with every duelist you put down, so every run is a shot at a new high score. Practice puts you against a straw training dummy that swings on a steady beat and shows the parry window on a timing bar, so you can see exactly how early or late you were. Rounds are quick, usually well under a minute. Play with keyboard, mouse or touch; your stars and best scores are saved in your browser.
Blade Duel is won by waiting. Each ladder duelist has a tell, such as Taro the Woodcutter rubbing his palms before every heavy swing, so watch for it before you commit. Holding block soaks up a hit, but tapping it within 120 milliseconds of the blade landing is a parry: the attacker staggers and you get a free strike. Practice is the place to learn that timing, because the straw dummy swings on a steady beat and the timing bar shows whether you were early or late.
Mix up your stances as well. A heavy strike is slow but breaks a guard held in the other stance, and a feint baits duelists such as Suzu the Lantern Keeper, who bites on every one. Use the dash to back out of reach when you are unsure what is coming. In Endless you have five hearts for the whole run and win one back with every flawless duel, so a careful round is worth more than a rushed one.

Yes. On a touch screen a stick steps you forward and back, and pushing its upper or lower half picks the high or low stance. Buttons for STRIKE, HEAVY, FEINT, BLOCK and DASH sit beside it. It plays with keyboard and mouse too.
Press block within 120 milliseconds of the blade landing instead of holding it. A parry makes the attacker stagger, slows everything down for a moment and gives you a free strike. Practice shows the parry window on a timing bar.
Three hits win a round and a duel is the best of five rounds, so the first to take three rounds wins. Rounds are quick, usually well under a minute, and flawless rounds earn up to three stars.

Ride a dragon, save the kingdom

Three floors deep, one Slime King

Sneak past the lanterns, steal the gold

Four tombs, twenty rooms, one trusty whip

Outlast the horde until dawn

Punch your way up the block

Swing through glowing crystal caverns

Climb thirty floors, one spell at a time

Ride the wind, dig the X, wake the Kraken

Run, jump, slide, don't stop

Tuck, carve, send it

Aim, fire, pop the tub clean

Drop, match, grow the melon

Hop the road, dodge the train, ride the log

Feed the koi, grow the pond

One tap. Golden every time.

Catch the comets, dodge the rocks

Low gravity, long jumps

Ten stages, big bosses, one plucky fighter
