Style Studio

Style Studio is a dress-up game with a brief to meet. A client steps onto a podium in a bright photo studio, between two softboxes and a rail of clothes, and hands you two to four picture cards. One is always the occasion: school, a party, the beach, rain, snow, sport or a gala evening. The others can ask for a season, a mood (cosy, sporty, elegant or playful) or a colour palette: warm, cool, pastel, bold or neutral. Clients come with all kinds of skin tones, hair textures, body shapes and ages. Some wear glasses or a hearing aid, some use a wheelchair, and every piece of the wardrobe fits all of them.

The wardrobe is drawn entirely in code and has ten tabs: tops, bottoms, dresses, outerwear, shoes, bags, hats, glasses, jewellery and hair, 143 pieces in all. Drag a piece onto the model or just tap it, then tap any of sixteen colour swatches to recolour it. Small rings on the brief cards fill up as the look comes together. When the client is wearing shoes and a top or a dress, press Reveal. The camera flashes, a polaroid drops in and the score is broken down with icons: points for each brief card, colour harmony read off the hue wheel (analogous and complementary colours score, clashing ones cost points), a complete look and finishing touches. Stars come at 60, 80 and 95. Looks of 80 or more keep your streak going, and your best streak counts as your high score.

A new Daily client arrives every day, and doing it daily builds a day streak. Clients mode is endless. Free Studio has no brief and no score. It's a quick, relaxed game with a gentle soundtrack you can mute, and it works with a mouse, a keyboard or a finger, upright on a phone or wide on a desktop.
