Locked Room is a classic point-and-click escape game set in twelve cosy, hand-drawn rooms: a study, a kitchen, an attic, a garage, a hotel room, a lab, a library, a log cabin, a train compartment, a lighthouse, a toy shop and an observatory. Each room is one screen with four walls. Turn with the arrows or a swipe and tap anything that looks interesting: drawers slide open, pictures swing aside, and whatever you find drops into the inventory bar at the bottom of the screen.
Every room is a short chain of puzzles. Oil a rusty key before it will turn, put a battery in a torch to see what is hiding under the sink, read a code off a painting, a clock, a calendar or a misted mirror, set a colour lock to match a row of jars, fit a fuse, find the lever behind a picture and slide the panels of a picture back into place. The clues are pictures rather than words, so a room reads the same in any language, and every lock and drawer opens in a big close-up that is easy to handle on a phone.
It is a gentle brain workout rather than a race. No clock ever ends your game: each room has a par time and three stars to collect, one for finishing under par, one for using no hints and one for never guessing a lock wrong. If you get stuck, the Hint button points at the next useful spot with a pulse, three times per room. Rooms unlock in order and your stars and best times are saved in your browser, so a quick room on a break is a nice way to relax, and the rest will be waiting when you come back.
Each room in Locked Room has four walls, so before you try any lock, turn all the way round and tap everything that looks interesting. Drawers, pictures and cupboards often hide the item or the clue you will need later. Clues are pictures rather than words, so look closely at paintings, clocks, calendars and mirrors, and note any numbers or colours you see before you open a close-up of a lock.
Items often need a step before they work: a rusty key needs oil, a torch needs a battery. If something will not fit, try combining two items in the inventory bar first. Take your time with codes, because one of the three stars is for never guessing a lock wrong, and another is for using no hints. There is no clock that ends your game, only a par time for the third star, so it pays to be careful rather than quick. If you are truly stuck, Hint points at the next useful spot, three times per room.
Yes. Locked Room is free to play in your browser on Kiloo. There is nothing to download and no account needed. Your stars and best times are saved in your browser, so you can play one room and come back for the rest later.
Yes. You tap to look, drag items onto things and swipe sideways to turn to the next wall. Every lock and drawer opens in a big close-up, which makes it easy to handle on a phone screen.
Press the Hint button, or H on a keyboard, and a pulse points at the next useful spot in the room. You get three hints per room, but using one means you miss the star for finishing without hints.
There are twelve rooms, from a study, a kitchen and an attic to a train compartment, a lighthouse and an observatory. They unlock in order, and each has three stars to collect for beating par, using no hints and making no wrong tries.
