Hold the trail, hold the town

Bolt steam cannons, tesla coils and gear launchers onto the pads of a Victorian workshop, overclock them until they glow, and keep the clock tower ticking through twenty-five waves of clockwork intruders.
Did you like Clockwork Keep?
Clockwork Keep is a tower defence set in a brass-and-copper workshop lit by oil lamps. A riveted iron walkway runs through cobbled yards, over giant gears sunk into the floor and past steam vents that cough on the half minute, and it ends at the gate of a clock tower whose glowing face you are paid to protect. Hexagonal brass pads sit along the walk, and what you bolt onto them decides how far the intruders get.
Five contraptions, three tiers each. The steam cannon lobs a splash shell that knocks the light ones back down the walk. The tesla coil throws lightning that jumps between up to five targets and leaves wind-ups twitching. The gear launcher throws fast cogs that ricochet into a second target. The pressure valve is a grate set into the walkway that scalds and slows everything crossing it, and at tier three it shoves the whole crowd back a step every few seconds. The automaton foundry builds two brass workers who stand in the road, block what comes and hammer their own dents out between fights. Every one of them has an overclock lever: eight seconds at double rate, then fifteen seconds of cooling while the gauge on its pad crawls back down.
Wind-up spiders swarm, brass beetles shrug off knock-back, key soldiers keep marching for three seconds after their spring runs out, zeppelins float over the ground guns and drop more spiders, piston crabs flatten an automaton in a single blow, and oil slugs leave slicks that make the next tesla bolt spread twice as far. Every fifth wave a brass colossus walks in — a boiler on legs that only the coils can overload, and every stagger vents another pack of spiders. Steam pressure builds as you break things and can be vented to slow the entire yard, ground gears can be reversed with a tap so they fight the intruders instead of carrying them, and there are three stars on every one of the twelve yards for a defence that never lets a single cog through the gate.
Clockwork Keep is won by timing as much as placement. Every contraption has an overclock lever that gives eight seconds at double rate followed by fifteen seconds of cooling, so save it for the moment a wave bunches up or a brass colossus arrives rather than pulling it as soon as it is ready. The steam boiler works the same way: pressure builds as you break things, and venting it slows the entire yard, which is most useful when the gate is under real threat.
Match contraptions to intruders. Only tesla coils can overload the brass colossus, so have coils in place before every fifth wave, and remember each stagger releases more spiders. Brass beetles shrug off knock-back, zeppelins float over the ground guns and drop spiders, and piston crabs flatten an automaton in one blow, so do not lean on foundry workers against them. Oil slugs leave slicks that make the next tesla bolt spread twice as far, so a coil near a slick pays off. Tap the ground gears to reverse them so they fight the intruders instead of carrying them.
Yes. Clockwork Keep is free to play in your browser on Kiloo. There is nothing to download and no account to create. Pick a yard, bolt contraptions onto the brass pads and keep the clock tower ticking.
Yes. On a phone or tablet you tap a contraption, then tap a brass pad to build it, and tap a tower to upgrade, overclock or sell it. On a computer, 1–5 picks a contraption, Space calls the next wave and F doubles speed.
Tap a tower and pull its overclock lever. It then runs at double rate for eight seconds, followed by fifteen seconds of cooling while the gauge on its pad crawls back down. Every contraption has a lever, so you can stagger them across a wave.
A brass colossus walks in every fifth wave. It is a boiler on legs that only the tesla coils can overload, so you need coils along its route. Every stagger vents another pack of wind-up spiders, so keep something nearby that can deal with a swarm.
Build, upgrade and hold the line.

Hold the trail, hold the town

Guard the queen, comb by comb

Hold the keep, wave after wave

Hold the ring, deck by deck

Keep the porch light on

Guard the cove by sea and sand

Sweet towers, sour invaders

Freeze them, shatter them, hold the igloos

Spears, boulders and tar against the dinosaurs

Run, jump, slide, don't stop

Bounce up the page

Tuck, carve, send it

The floor is lava. Keep running.

Six tries, one word a day

Buy low, sail far, sell high

Crush the cars, nail the landing

Pair to thirteen, clear the pyramid

Tap in time, build to the sky

Aim, fire, pop the tub clean

Overclock the brass, hold the tower
